Labor Day came about because workers felt they were spending too many hours and days on the job (Can I get an Amen!). But let’s get some perspective. In the 1830s, manufacturing workers were putting in 70-hour weeks on average (Yikes!). The holiday was founded to reduce the work week to 6 days a week. It appears that they succeeded as the average work week is only five days a week and is normally considered to be just 8 hours per day. So, raise a glass and relax as your forefathers fought major battles to ensure you can relax a few days a week and on this holiday.
